I did something stupid last night: I frogged my first completed sock.

Which, really, is not that stupid if you think about it. I like the yarn and I want to use it for another sock, so of course I should rip out my first completed sock, just maybe not immediately after completing it, and before starting my second sock.

But I did it anyways. And thus, I have begun my May sock in a very pretty color way of Happy Feet brought to you by Plymouth Yarn:

This color way makes me very happy. It’s just so bright and perky!

I bought two skeins a few weeks ago and was very pleased with the way it knit up. As a result, I am now knitting the Jaywalker socks (sorry, Ravelry link). I decided to knit this in Magic Lopp because the stupid little sock DPNs were driving me bonkers on the bus. That, and one of my DPNs snapped in half while I was knitting (not my fault! The bus hit a pothole) and I have yet to get my replacement from Brittany. I think Magic Loop will work better for bus knitting because I can’t drop a needle like I did once (or twice…) with my little sock DPNs when the bus swerved or something equally disturbing on the freeway. Regardless, I finished the ribbing on the commute this morning, and will start on the stitch pattern on my way home.

My biggest regret about ripping up my first sock is that I won’t be able to see my mistakes. While most of them are stuck for all eternity in my mind, others I’ve forgotten or can’t remember what it was exactly that I did wrong. I’m hoping that I’ll recall my mistakes as I go and not actually do them again. We’ll see how that all works out.

I wanted to try 2 socks on 1 circular needle initially, but I decided that would not make the person who sits next to me on the bus happy and would only increase the potential for disaster. I’m hoping to finish my Jaywalkers by the end of May, and to start another set of socks for June. I keep telling myself if I knit one pair of a socks a month, I can justify a membership for the Rockin Sock Club in 2009. If not, I’ll get one anyways because I’m yarn happy like that.

In website news: I’m getting the finished objects gallery up! It’s connected through my Flickr account, which is nice and convenient for me.
