by Liz on May 29, 2008

in knit

I cast on for my first pair of Monkey socks on Tuesday (5/27), and I finished the leg and heel yesterday, as well as 2 lace repeats for the foot. These socks are gorgeous, and I absolutely love this yarn. I should finish the the first sock tonight!   Flickr.

How the knitter got her groove back.

May 27, 2008

After an extremely frustrating five day period of nothing but knitting hell, I think I got my groove back. I cast on the ever famous Monkey sock tonight in the most perfect colorway of all time. It has just the faintest hint of self striping, in the most wonderful array of colors. dKknits Technicolor Dream [...]

Weekend Knits, Knitting sucks edition

May 27, 2008

I’ve been silent on the knitblog front for awhile for one big reason: I am mad at knitting. I broke up with knitting this weekend. It’s only a temporary split, really, honest, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a few days before I pick up the needles again. And really, I’m not [...]

I’d rather be knitting than doing pretty much anything else

May 21, 2008

It’s not that I don’t like my job, or Boyfriend, or my friends, but I’d much rather be knitting than going to work, and I’d prefer it if I could knit when I hung out with Boyfriend and my friends. My non-knitting friends seem to think this is odd.

I feel like I should be throwing confetti or something…

May 19, 2008

So this weekend I started my very first sock pattern. It’s all very exciting, and I’ll probably never publish it, except for maybe the lace chart. I was flipping through my stitch dictionaries this weekend and combined a few different parts from various lace patterns, and am tying everything together with cables. I’m really excited, [...]

Victory! California Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban

May 15, 2008

A little more politics today, but it’s so worth it! Check out the LA Times article here. In a 4-3 ruling, the justices rule that state marriage laws are unconstitutional. SAN FRANCISCO — – The California Supreme Court ruled today that same-sex couples should be permitted to marry, rejecting state marriage laws as discriminatory. The [...]

California’s budget crisis and the Governor’s temporary fix

May 15, 2008

I don’t normally write about politics here (I tend to do that here), but California’s budget crisis is such a big deal to me that I can’t avoid talking about it any longer. It is no secret that I do not like Gov. Schwarzenegger. My 18th birthday was 2 weeks after the recall election, and [...]

Elfine’s socks: lace chart

May 14, 2008

I am going to be starting my next pair of socks this week, and I decided to knit a pair of Elfine’s socks. I’ll be using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Gold Hill (think falling leaves), and I wanted to make myself a lace chart of the pattern before I began. I love knitting from [...]

Random conversations with Boyfriend

May 13, 2008

(Background: Boyfriend works with severely emotionally disturbed children.) Boyfriend (via text): Is it unethical to talk about the kids at my job if I don’t mention their names? Me: Technically it’s legal. Boyfriend: But I shouldn’t do it? Me: You can to me/other people, but I wouldn’t start a blog about it or anything.

Weekend Knits, I didn’t knit anything Edition

May 12, 2008

I didn’t knit a single damn thing this weekend. Ok, that’s a lie. I realized I made a mistake in my Jaywalkers, and I had to rip them back quite a few rows in order to rectify the situation. I worked on finishing the second sock, but I wasn’t able to complete it because I [...]

Hard… candy?

May 12, 2008

I love Madonna as much as the next mid-80s born girl, but I’m a little confused about what is going on in this picture: I thought two things when I saw this picture, in this exact order: 1.) that can’t be comfortable and, 2.) where are her nipples? I personally don’t care that she’s 49 [...]

But I didn’t know what I now now, then

May 9, 2008

I’m turning 23 this year, and it should be no surprise that I’ve racked up a few ex-boyfriends over the past few years. I wish I could say that I’m still friends with some of them, but I’m not, and I don’t entirely feel like that is my fault. They were either assholes, drop outs, [...]

FO: May Jaywalkers

May 9, 2008

I finished both socks last night (well, I still need to graft the second one, but it’s done!). I haven’t taken a picture with both of them on, but they’re two of the same thing, so I’m sure no one is that upset about it. Overall, I am very pleased with the way they turned [...]
