I am not one who does resolutions, simply because I think they’re a bit ridiculous. We have a new month every 28-31 days, and a new year every 265 days, so it’s not that rare. But I’m thinking I may need to start forming some new habits.
For instance, only buying yarn that truly adds something to my stash – which I am finally in a position to do. Now that I actually have a stash, I’m ready to start regulating my purchasing.
I have a plethora of sock yarn, so I can only justify purchases of that if they’re truly unique, necessary, or purchased with a specific project in mind – that I’ll start fairly soon after purchasing.
But who cares about that? That’s no fun. You know what’s fun? YARN CLUBS. And you know why? You get fun new yarn every month, and it technically doesn’t count against your stash regulating. I’m in 3 clubs this year – so I plan to be very productive in the regulating department.
I’m in my favorite club of all time: the dkknits I wool dye for ewe sock club. You get one unique sock yarn every month, shipped with goodies and exclusive patterns. And the best part? The “unique” sock yarn isn’t the same color for everyone: Becky dyes a color specific to you and the survey you fill out upon joining the club. I was in the club for a few months last year, and got some truly gorgeous colorways.
As you can see, I got some amazing colorways from Becky’s club. I’m really excited for this one to start again!
I’m also in Eat Sleep Knit’s Malabrigo projects club – which I cannot tell you how excited I am. Although, here’s hoping we’re not getting yarn for a violently red, pink, or yellow sweater. That just doesn’t sit well with me…
The third and final club I just joined this morning: The Plucky Knitter Classics Club. Truthfully, I’m a bit bitter towards all things Plucky Knitter. I’ve been watching her shop like a hawk for updates, but the updates were never done when they were advertised to be, so I always missed all of the colorways I would have been interested in purchasing. I think it’s a little ridiculous that I had to join the club to even be able to get yarn (Sundara yarn anyone?), but I guess that’s how it works. I joined the club for 3 months, so we’ll see how it works out. I may cancel after 3 months, I may keep it.
Now I’m going to spend every day for the next two weeks running to the mailbox waiting to see if my packages have arrived…
