I made a hat. Normally, this would not be that exciting of a statement, except I made a hat at the end of March, just weeks before spring. In retrospect, this was not the smartest planning. But it’s such a cute hat! Thinking back, this hat may be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever knit.
It took forever. What kind of an idiot casts on 152 stitches with a US 1 1/2 (2.5mm) needle in stocking stitch? Me, apparently. I must be a glutton for punishment.
On top of the ridiculously long amount of time it took me to knit, it’s not exactly seasonally appropriate. And I want to wear it constantly. My head has been really warm the past few days – which is great because it’s been a little stormy. But not ideal since it’s supposed to warm up. Eventually.
Despite all of the mishaps, this hat is adorable. I love it. Obviously:
The pattern is free on Ravelry as the Sockhead Hat. It calls for one skein of sock yarn (check!) and endless patience. The brim is folded over ribbing, which keeps my ears nice and toasty.
I knit the cap in Femme Fatale Fibers Venus Fingering (80/10/10 merino/cashmere/nylon) in the Carmilla colorway – hence the project name.
And then proceeded to finish the hat and take several ridiculous pictures of myself.
I think I can call this project a winner, even though it made me a little crazy.
I don’t have any of this colorway stocked in the shop at the moment, but I will soon! I’ve just received a small shipment from my mill and will be doing some dyeing soon.
