Three times this week I have had to untangle a mess of yarn that my cats have created with their vicious curiosity. Bastards.

I love them, but they’re bastards.

The first victim was boyfriend’s Malabrigo Chunky beanie, which was extremely easy to untangle, as it’s chunky yarn and there wasn’t much left for them to abuse.

The second victim was my latest Clapotis, which is being knit with fingerweight yarn. It took me 4 hours to untangle, and no, dammit, I was not going to just throw it away. That yarn cost me $21, and it’s a gorgeous color (it’s black, but has all different colors in it like a oil slick - so pretty!) and I had already finished all of the increases and a few straight repeats as well. I think I lost a yard or two in the process, but I’ve re-wound it into a ball so I’ll be able to continue on with the rule of fifths now (1/5 increases, 3/5 straight sections, 1/5 decreases).

Then the cats attacked the newly reballed yarn, but did very little damage.

The third victim was not so much a knitting project, but it was still knitting yarn.

I got a rigid heddle loom for my birthday, and it’s quite a lot of fun to work with. I’m still learning, of course, but I really like working with it. Anyways.

My cat sat on it. While I had a project on it.

She sat on it and managed to chew on the warp and tangle it up. I’m not quite clear on how she tangled a warp for a project that is 75% done, but she did it. I was actually kind of proud of her for this one. It was a new feat of kitty terror.

My poor yarn, it has been a tough week.

oh no! I laughed so hard at the title alone, but i feel your pain.

Last Christmas, I was working on socks in really lovely expensive yarn at my inlaws house and my cousin’s dog climbed up on the sofa and grabbed it off a windowsill for a snack - that’s a lot of effort for a dog who spends 90% of his time on his fat lazy ass, so I was extra impressed.

good luck with future projects — maybe you could rub all your yarn on a neighbors’ dog before you begin knitting or spinninng as a precaution?

See, it’s stories like yours that *almost* make me glad my roommate’s allergic, and there are no cats for us.

But most of the time, that isn’t the case. I’m sighing with feline envy.

Oy! I am so sorry…! It does now have me feverously checking the location of my little demonic furballs as we speak, and well…laughing…not at you, at the sheer ingenuity of your munchcat…^&*#&^% that is too crazy!
