So this weekend I started my very first sock pattern. It’s all very exciting, and I’ll probably never publish it, except for maybe the lace chart. I was flipping through my stitch dictionaries this weekend and combined a few different parts from various lace patterns, and am tying everything together with cables. I’m really excited, and I think it is going to be an amazing pair of socks. The lace pattern is gorgeous, but extremely simple. It’s a 4 row repeat that spans across 34 stitches, but it is very easy to memorize (and I’m one of those people who doesn’t memorize lace patterns easily - at all).

I like the idea of writing my own sock pattern, of making a sock that is totally unique and that only I have. Which, I mean, duh, almost all knitted socks are completely unique, but this is different. It’s mine, all mine. Mine from cast on to cast off. It’s a thrilling feeling, really.

I can definitely see myself inventing more sock patterns in the future, if only for me to knit on my own. I’m definitely not aspiring to be the next Cookie A or anything, but it’s a blast to be able to invent something yourself.
