Meet Chi, the [partial] Owl:

I’ve been working on this gimpy little owl since the beginning of March and I still haven’t finished him. I’m working with this pattern, and I must say, it’s one of the most clear and well-written patterns I have ever seen. If you are interested in knitting an owl, I would absolutely 100% recommend this pattern. It requires a few advanced skills, but is easy to figure out and has detailed instructions (and pictures!) for every step of the way.
With that said, I made a few mistakes on my first owl because I got all excited and just kept knitting how I thought it was supposed to be, rather than following the instructions:

Omega with the boyfriend at Sierra at Tahoe.
But my owl turned out okay and the recipient LOVED it - she didn’t even notice the minor flaws (I actually ended up doing a bit of owl surgery on him to fix his horns). So poor Chi has been a gimpy owl for over a month now.
I guess I should explain the story behind owl-palooza. When I was in college, I was a Chi Omega and our symbol is the owl (which I am absolutely obsessed with). My big sis, Georgia, was President of our house during her last year, and she loved everything about Chi Omega. Her owl, Chi, was supposed be a belated graduation gift, but he’s still waiting to take flight to his new home in San Francisco.
Since people have started seeing these owls, I’ve been bombarded with requests to make them. I have to make one for my little sis, my grand little, my friend who is graduating in June, my roommate, and many, many others. But first, I must tackle Georgia’s owl.
And if you tell other people you’re going to do something, that means you have to, right? So I figure if I tell the whole internet that I’m going to finish Georgia’s owl tonight, that’s a whole lot of people who can hold me to my word.
Yeah… we’ll see how that pans out, especially since Picnic Day is tomorrow (must see Dachshund races and milk a cow!). I’ll post an update in Monday’s Weekend Knits!
Oh, and, Elizabeth - I cast on my Anastasia socks last night!
