I’ve made significant progress on my Leaf Lace Scarf since Sunday, more than I expected, actually. While I’m not in love with the color, it is shaping up quite nicely with the lace pattern, and I think the finished product will be very impressive. I won’t be keeping it because the colors simply don’t suit me, but I will be giving it to a co-worker who is being laid off due to the budget cuts in California. The colors suit her perfectly, and I think she’ll really appreciate it.

[Leaf Lace Scarf] Colors in the ball

I was a little worried after my first 10 attempts at projects with this colorway (Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Gold Hill) that it was going to be one of those yarns that just sat in the bottom of my stash for years, but I’m quite happy with it now. The color looked so gorgeous in the skein, with the autumn colors and the subtle changes and blends, but when I knit it up, those subtle changes and blends were lost in a flurry of color poo. It looked, quite literally, like knitting poo. It looks much better now, though.

[Leaf Lace Scarf] Stitches

High on my lace knitting success, I decided to cast on for a pair of Baudelaire socks last night. This was a bit of an accident, actually. I was winding my yarn from the I Wool Dye for Ewe dkKnits sock club into a ball last night in preparation for Monday’s KAL when I decided to browse through my queue on Ravelry. And then it hit me. This colorway (Feminist Fushia) was born to be wild Baudelaire. The slight variations in the color make it more appealing than a true solid, and I think that is exactly the right yarn for this project.

As much as I wanted to take part in the KAL, I wanted to knit my Feminist Fushia yarn into a pair of Baudelaires. Since Becky is so generous with her yardage, I’m hoping I’ll have enough yarn leftover after completing the Baudelaire socks to tackle a slightly modified version of our KAL. Maybe I’ll make socks for my coworker’s kid. She has small feet. Small feet = less yarn = KAL participation. It’s a win-win as far as I can tell. I’ll be starting the KAL late, but I’m willing to make sacrifices.

I just realized that I haven’t touched yarn above fingering weight in about a month. My poor worsted, it must feel so neglected.
