I started knitting around last November and I was very reluctant to knit socks. They looked difficult, you needed teeny tiny thin yarn, you had to use DPNs, and many other reasons. I was a Sockless Knitter. But now, you could say, I’ve reformed: I’ve become a knitter obsessed with socks.

People warned me. I was cautioned, and told that knitting socks can be extremely addictive. I was warned that sock yarn is a vicious little creature that is small, inexpensive, and easy to hide from your significant other (all of which, by the way, is totally true). I ignored the warning signs, and pressed on, only to discover that they were right: knitting socks is addictive, sock yarn is amazing, and there is nothing more satisfactory than turning that heel or shaping that toe.

I’ve only finished one measly sock, but I’ve got the concept of sock knitting down cold - well, not frozen cold, more like a lukewarm cold. I’ve already picked out the yarn and patterns for my next 86 pairs of socks, all of which, by the way, I’m knitting for myself. I’m a greedy knitter: I like to keep the things I knit and show them off to others, but that’s a whole different topic entirely.

My thoughts are constantly plagued by my socks: the ones I’m knitting, the ones I want to knit, and everything in between. I haven’t started knitting more than one pair at a time, I’ve managed to keep my focus on one pair. Although, this could change when I get the replacement needle for my broken sock DPN, or when I go buy more DPNs. We’ll see!

The sock I finished this weekend is the infamous Jaywalker. It fits me perfectly, except for a little bit of bagginess in the calf region due to the pattern’s lack of elasticity. I also cranked out quite a bit of my Hexacomb Cardi this weekend, and I was able to get one of the sleeves half finished. I’m hoping to finish it this coming weekend, but we’ll see how that goes, especially since I’ve been saying that for the past two weeks.

So far, it looks like I’ll be hitting my goals for the months of April and May, but it’s a little too soon to tell.

Sorry, no pictures this time!
