This weekend was a little lonely. Boyfriend was in San Diego watching the U.S. Open and almost all of my friends have gone away for the summer, or gone home. I need more friends who have already graduated from college. It was a skill a fun weekend for me, even though it was extremely low key.
Friday night we threw a surprised party for my lil sis, which was great fun. And Saturday I spent all day knitting my Spring Forward socks and Leaf Lace Scarf. I actually finished one Spring Forward sock yesterday. I have yet to take pictures of the completed sock, but here is one to satisfy you until then. I will make a separate post with photos and details regarding the # of lace repeats, etc, later this evening. This was also my first project with a Knit Picks circular needle, so I’ll be including my… um… impressions of that as well.
I spent a large amount of time on Saturday sipping my decaf beverage and rocking out to Kylie Minogue at Peet’s working on that sock. I got quite a few compliments on it, and I even had a fellow knitter come up to me and ask about the yarn, pattern, etc. I ended up talking to her for about an hour. I told her about Ravelry, Knitty, and Becky’s beautiful yarns. She was a bit of a newbie to knitting, and she was very excited. She showed me her garter stitch scarf and asked me some very poignant questions. Even though she was much older than me, it was a lot of fun just sitting and talking with her about knitting. I don’t have any knitting friends, so I feel kind of alone sometimes.
I also made a lot of progress on my Leaf Lace Scarf, which is going to be a gift for my co-worker, Camille, who is being laid off due to the Terminator’s inability to run a government and repair budget cuts. I really like the way this scarf is shaping up, even more so than before, because now that I know I am giving it away, it is much more fun to knit. I didn’t particularly care for it before because I was knitting it for myself and the colors weren’t exactly a Liz combination, but now, it seems so perfect.
I’m glad I didn’t rip it back. While I’m unsure if I’m doing sl, k2tog, psso correctly, I’m pretty sure I am (I mean, how could I do that incorrectly? Other than slipping a stitch kwise when it was supposed to be pwise?). I suppose we’ll see what it looks like in blocking. While I am an anal perfectionist, I am not about to rip up that much progress, especially when the gift is for a non-crafter. I’m really glad I ended up using this yarn for a scarf. It would have gone to waste otherwise.
Sunday, oh Sunday. I gave myself a Wii-injury. I went to my dad’s house for a little lunch BBQ, and to my surprised, my step-mom had purchased him a Wii for his Father’s Day gift (they love buying each other gifts. “Hi honey! It’s Tuesday! Here’s new shoes! I love you!” is pretty normal for the Abinante residence. I played Wii Sports for about 4 hours (mostly tennis and bowling), and then the brain game for another hour or two. I’m officially obsessed. Now, iPhone or Wii? Decisions, decisions.
