I didn’t get a ton of stuff done on the knitting front this weekend. I had way too much laundry to do, and I spent a lot of time apartment hunting and the like. But now that I have a place to live in August (with plenty of room for my stash!), I have more time on my hands to knit. This is a picture-free post, my friends.

On Thursday, I stopped by my LYS and bought some sock yarn to knit the No Purl Monkey socks. I ended up settling on Lorna’s Laces Shepard Sock yarn in Gold Hill. I wanted Forest, but she only had one skein, oh well. I think the Gold Hill will work out better with the No Purl Monkey stitch pattern anyways.

Friday was an uneventful evening: I drank lots of wine and watched Charlie Wilson’s War with Boyfriend. I knit a little of my sock before we started watching the movie, but the wine gave way to the knitting and the movie, which, by the way, was actually quite good if you managed to ignore Julia Roberts’s awful accent and poorly developed character. But, the socks! I only have enough yarn left to add on about 4-5 more inches to the top of my sock (which actually sounds like quite a bit…), so I should be able to finish sock #1 fairly soon.

Saturday was spent knitting like a mad woman. I finished the right and left fronts of my Hexacomb Cardi, but I stupidly forgot to make a note of which row in the pattern I left off on, so I had to rip out several rows of the back on Sunday, and I eventually just gave up on the project for the weekend. It looks really nice so far, and I’ve been checking my gauge every inch or so, and it’s staying very accurate. The garment is also the correct size - thank god.

Sunday was spent doing endless amounts of laundry and folding it all. It was very dull. I didn’t touch my sock at all after Friday, which is sad because it’s so close to being completed. I probably would have finished it today if I took the bus, but I woke up far too late and missed all three of the morning buses into Sacramento. Whoops…

I tried to give the Summer 2008 Interweave Knits another chance, but I can’t. It’s so fug. I tried to look at it with the knowledge that knitting summer objects can sometimes be difficult, but I just couldn’t do it. All I kept thinking was “oh my god, that’s so hideous.” The only thing I considered knitting was the Eyelet Surplice Dress, and when I looked closer… I definitely changed my mind on that one. It’s not a flattering shape, and I can see all sorts of things going wrong with it, so I’m not even going to go there. I can’t tell from the preview pictures or not if it has a side seam in the skirt, but if it does… um… why? If I was more into lace, I’d knit the Gossamer Stars Scarf, but I’m not, so I won’t. I don’t find the lace pattern in that scarf to be all that appealing.

I think my next project will be the quasi-Phiaro Scarf. I don’t actually have the pattern, but I understand the concept behind it, so I’ll be writing up something similar and cranking it out. I’m going to my LYS to buy some 100% silk yarn, which I will be hand dyeing. My LYS sells natural silk yarn at about 600 yards a hank for a decent price, so I’ll probably pick up one and just knit until I run out. They also sell Alpaca in the same format, so it’s verrrry tempting to buy some of that as well… but I’ve already gone way over my budget for yarn. Four skeins of sock yarn, some Malabrigo, and 100% silk yarn, all in one month? Yeah, excessive.

It looks like I’m definitely going to be able to hit my knitting goal of 3 socks and 1 garment for the months of April and May. Hell, maybe I’ll try to finish the Phiaro Scarf, too!
