Adorable me, being overdramatic at the pier

Me being overdramatic at the pier in SF. Notice the fog/smoke?

I took today off so I could enjoy a long weekend and I decided to visit Imagiknit in The City with my stepsister in tow, and after visiting Imagiknit, she decided she was going to knit, too. Victory! I ended up buying 7 skeins of Malabrigo in varying colors, totally worth it. I also received an order from Becky’s shop today as well, so it was a yarn-filled Monday. I think the pictures say it better than I ever could, so I’ll let them do the talking. Some were taken indoors, so you may have to use your imagination a little bit.

Oh, and if you make it, there is some actual knitting at the end of this post. It was a busy 4 day weekend.

Not pictured: I placed an order for the self-striping rainbow Regia sock yarn from a store that still had some in stock! I also placed an order from Webs: some Berroco Peruvia Quick in Acquamarina for a Juliet from Zephyr Style, and one skein of Malabrigo Lace in Tuareg, just because I can.

Malabrigo, from Imagiknit, all of which I had projects in mind for (2 Whales Road - scarf, 1 Alpine - beret, and 4 Buscando Azul - sweater):

dkKnits, some technicolor dream toes, none of which I had projects in mind for, except that I wanted a lot of whatever the last one was, so I bought two! Colors are Diamonds are Forever, Steamy Horizon, Mermaid’s Tail - two of the same, the photo makes them look different:

Becky of dkKnits has a wonderful sock club. I got my July shipment: technicolor smoosh toes in Grad Student Studies. Becky named this color perfectly!

I also ordered some new yarn from Becky, which hasn’t yet been shipped. Two of the first one (I love purple and green together!), and one of the second:

On Saturday, I decided to finally do something about that KnitPicks bare merino sock yarn I dyed a few months ago. If you don’t remember, the pink and red ran together a little too much for my liking, and I was quite bummed:

I’ve been wanting to dye over it with some blue, in hopes that the reds and pinks would leave some purple mixed it, with some light and dark blues due to the white and purple spots from the original dye job. And low and behold, it did exactly what I wanted. Meet my new hand dyed yarn, aptly named Indigo Girls (ignore the pink, that’s acrylic yarn holding together the skein):

I am quite proud of myself with this one. I fixed a botched job, and it turned out rather nicely!

I did get some actual knitting done this weekend. Last week, I decided to cast on the ever famous Clapotis. I’ve cast on for it a few times, and it has never actually worked out for me. I’m currently using one ball of some Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn, and it has a weird texture to it, for a shawl. I used this yarn even though I knew it would have a funky texture because I wanted to see the number of repeats I could get out of it before I knit one up with some of my dkKnits yarn. I’ve made it through a few straight repeats after only a day of knitting:

[Clapotis] After 6 straight repeats

I’m pleased with the way it is looking. Instead of using stitch markers, I am purling the dropped stitches. I am knitting and purling tbl to have a more even column alongside the dropped stitches.

I also whipped up a little iPod cozy using some leftover yarn from my Spring Forward socks:

[iPod Cozy] Sugar the Rim

I did a few panels of seed stitch, and some random purl rows as well. I learned the tubular bind off while knitting this, even though it wasn’t necessary for the project. Better to learn on a hoky iPod cozy made from scrap yarn than on a sock made with lovely yarn.

I’ve almost finished the second sleeve on my Hexacomb Cardi, and I’m putting the Swallowtail Shawl and Endpaper Mitts on a temporary snooze. The Swallowtail Shawl had to be ripped back quite a few rows, so I’m a little angry at it (4 days later, still), and the Endpaper Mitts are difficult to get excited about knitting when it is 110 degrees outside. I will definitely finish my Endpaper Mitts before I start school next month. San Francisco is cold at 9:45 PM!

I’ll drool over the Malibrigo you bought which my LYS does not sell. I sort of substitute Koigu for Malibrigo in my mind and am due some. I love love love the one pair of Koigu socks I have made. I only know the sewn bind off for socks, maybe I’ll check out the tubular.
